Gran Kaz Victoria
Gran Kaz Victoria is a cultural center located in Victoria, the capital city of Seychelles. The center was established in 2014 with the aim of preserving and promoting Seychellois culture through music, dance, and food. Gran Kaz Victoria is housed in a restored colonial building and offers a range of activities and events for visitors to experience Seychelles’ unique cultural heritage.
The building that houses Gran Kaz Victoria was originally built in 1870 and was used as a courthouse, a police station, and a prison. The building was restored in 2014 and converted into a cultural center by the Seychelles Heritage Foundation. The center was officially opened by the President of Seychelles, James Michel, on October 10, 2014.
Gran Kaz Victoria offers a range of activities and events that showcase Seychelles’ unique cultural heritage. One of the center’s main attractions is its traditional music and dance performances. Visitors can experience live performances of Sega, a traditional dance that originated in Seychelles, as well as other traditional dances such as Moutya and Kontredanse.
The center also offers a variety of culinary experiences that showcase Seychellois cuisine. Visitors can enjoy traditional Creole dishes such as fish curry, grilled octopus, and coconut-based desserts. The center also offers cooking classes where visitors can learn how to prepare Seychellois dishes.
In addition to its cultural offerings, Gran Kaz Victoria is also a popular venue for private events such as weddings and corporate functions. The center can accommodate up to 300 guests and provides catering and entertainment services.
