Sugarloaf Mountain, known as Pão de Açúcar in Portuguese, is one of the most iconic landmarks of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Rising 396 meters (1,299 feet) above Guanabara Bay, the mountain is named for its resemblance to the traditional shape of a loaf of sugar. Sugarloaf Mountain is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Rio de Janeiro and is a must-see destination for visitors to the city.

The history of Sugarloaf Mountain dates back to the 16th century when the Portuguese arrived in Brazil and established a colony in the region. The mountain was known to the indigenous people who lived in the area as Pau-nh-Açuqua, which means “high hill of the sea”.
