Founded in 1986, Al-Maarifa International Private School (MIS) is an educational institution with over 30 years of experience in the Emirate of Sharjah. The school is home to more than 4,000 students from 65 different nationalities and offers education from kindergarten to grade 12. The curriculum at Al-Maarifa International Private School follows the American Education System up to high school, where graduates are given the opportunity to continue with the American Curriculum or beyond the British Curriculum. Al-Maarifa International Private School provides its students with a balanced and stimulating environment so that students can develop socially and intellectually. The MIS also places great emphasis on collaborative learning activities, as the school believes that occasional activities have a positive impact on learning as well. MIS has established a Quality Assurance Department (QAD) which focuses exclusively on monitoring, improving and supporting staff, curriculum and school operations. QAD regularly organizes classroom visits, performance training workshops and other activities to improve school quality. Curriculum
The MIS curriculum is designed to provide its students with access to creative, social, scientific and sporting learning environments. At the foundation level, the school focuses on developing students’ skills in Languages, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Information Technology, Islamic Studies, Physical Education, Music and Art. The teaching methods used are English, but Arabic is compulsory for all students. Indigenous Arabic speakers are taught a very high level of curriculum. Al-Maarifa International Private School offers an American curriculum up to Grade 9. Students can choose to stay in the same curriculum or move to the British Curriculum after this point. Islamic subjects and the Arabic language are taught in both subjects as required by the Department of Education.
British System
Students who choose the British Curriculum are taking A / AS-Level examinations at the end of Grade 12. Student performance in the IGCSE examinations is taken into account when selecting A / AS-Levels subjects. For the IGCSE exam, students are required to take English, Mathematics, Islamic Study and Arabic courses. Students must take the IGCSE exam at the end of Grade 10. Students who choose the British Program must also take a standardized test conducted by the Department of Arabic Education and Islamic Studies by the end of Grade 12. They will then receive a High School Diploma and an official UAE Higher Certificate (Thaniwiyah).
Distance Learning
The school offers a scholarship program for students when the UAE government closes them. Extra-curricular activities
Al-Maarifa International Private School places equal importance in both learning and learning activities. The school believes that post-curriculum activities help to improve the learner’s personality as well as their academic performance. Al Maarifa International School students participate in regional competitions and activities hosted by other educational institutions in the country and make a name for themselves as strong competitors.
