Arcelor Mittal Orbit London
The ArcelorMittal Orbit is a unique sculpture and observation tower located in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, East London. The tower, which was designed by Sir Anish Kapoor and engineer Cecil Balmond, was built as a permanent installation for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games held in London.
At 114.5 meters (376 feet), the ArcelorMittal Orbit is the tallest public sculpture in the UK and offers stunning views of London’s skyline from its observation deck. Visitors can reach the top of the tower by taking a 35-second lift ride, or for a more adventurous experience, they can take the 455 steps to the top.
The sculpture is made up of 35,000 bolts and weighs 1,400 tonnes. It is constructed from tubular steel and has a distinctive red lattice structure that makes it stand out against the London skyline. The tower was named after the steel company ArcelorMittal, which sponsored its construction.
One of the most popular attractions at the ArcelorMittal Orbit is the slide, which was added to the tower in 2016. The slide is the longest and tallest tunnel slide in the world and is 178 meters (584 feet) long. The slide starts at the observation deck, and riders travel down the twisting and turning tunnel at speeds of up to 15 miles per hour. The slide offers a thrilling and unique way to experience the tower and has become a must-do activity for visitors to London.
The ArcelorMittal Orbit is not just a tourist attraction; it is also a venue for events and exhibitions. The tower has hosted a range of art exhibitions, including a showcase of Anish Kapoor’s work and a display of contemporary photography. The tower has also been used for private events, weddings, and corporate functions, making it a versatile and popular venue.
In addition to the observation tower and slide, the ArcelorMittal Orbit offers a range of other activities and experiences. Visitors can take part in yoga classes or abseil down the tower, or for a more relaxing experience, they can enjoy a drink or meal at the tower’s bar and restaurant, which offers stunning views of the city.
Overall, the ArcelorMittal Orbit is a unique and exciting attraction that offers visitors the chance to experience London’s skyline from a different perspective. Whether you are looking for a thrilling ride down the slide, a relaxing meal with a view, or a chance to see some of the city’s best art exhibitions, the ArcelorMittal Orbit has something for everyone.
