Kualoa Ranch is a 4,000-acre private nature reserve and working cattle ranch located on the eastern coast of Oahu, Hawaii. It has a rich history and cultural significance, and is now a popular tourist attraction offering a wide range of activities and tours.
History and Culture
The land that is now Kualoa Ranch was originally inhabited by Native Hawaiians, who cultivated taro and other crops in the fertile soil. In the early 19th century, the area was designated as a royal land division and became a working cattle ranch under the ownership of Englishman John Adams Kuakini.
The ranch was later passed down to the Bishop Estate, a charitable organization that supports education in Hawaii. In the 20th century, the land was used as a sugar plantation, and during World War II, it served as a training ground for the US military.
Today, Kualoa Ranch is still a working cattle ranch, but it has also become a popular location for film and TV productions, with over 50 productions filmed on the property, including Jurassic Park, Godzilla, and Lost.
