Theatre

Raven Theatre has been an integral part of the cultural landscape on the Northside of Chicago for almost 40 years. Founded in 1983, Raven Theatre has built a reputation for producing thought-provoking new works and revivals of modern dramas. Along with its commitment to modern drama, Raven Theatre also provides educational programming to children and schools in the surrounding neighborhoods. With its current home at the East Stage and the Schwartz Stage, Raven Theatre continues to be a cultural cornerstone in the Chicago theatre scene.

One of the most important aspects of Raven Theatre is its subscription series. The subscription series offers three productions each season, all of which take place on the East Stage. The series focuses on revivals of works primarily from the late 19th century to the present and includes both Chicago and World Premieres. Raven Theatre has been dedicated to staging plays that reflect the diversity of voices and experiences of Chicago’s communities. This dedication is reflected in the diverse productions that are part of the subscription series, which offers something for everyone.

In addition to the subscription series, Raven Theatre offers a robust educational program. The program includes teaching artists who go into neighborhood schools for in-school theatrical residencies, a field trip program for elementary school students, a Saturday series of classes for children, and a children’s theatrical summer camp program. Raven Theatre’s education programming is designed to engage children with the arts and encourage their creativity. The programs are created to foster a lifelong love of the arts and provide an outlet for self-expression.

Raven Theatre’s commitment to modern drama is reflected in its productions. Each season, Raven Theatre produces revivals of modern plays, many of which are rarely performed. The theatre also produces new works by contemporary playwrights, including plays that reflect the diversity of Chicago’s communities. Raven Theatre has staged productions of works by playwrights such as Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, and August Wilson, as well as contemporary playwrights such as Martin McDonagh, Qui Nguyen, and Matthew-Lee Erlbach.

The theatre’s current home at the East Stage and the Schwartz Stage provides the perfect venue for Raven Theatre’s productions. The East Stage is an intimate 85-seat theatre that provides an up-close and personal theatre experience. The Schwartz Stage, on the other hand, is a more traditional proscenium theatre that can seat up to 56 people. Both venues provide the perfect setting for Raven Theatre’s productions, with top-notch lighting and sound equipment.

Raven Theatre is dedicated to engaging the community in theatre, both through its productions and through its educational programs. The theatre’s location on the Northside of Chicago makes it easily accessible to people in the area. Raven Theatre has become a cultural hub for the surrounding neighborhoods and is often referred to as a cultural cornerstone of the Chicago theatre scene.

One of the theatre’s most important goals is to engage audiences with thought-provoking theatre. Raven Theatre believes that theatre is an essential part of the community and plays a vital role in society. The theatre has a deep commitment to producing works that engage the community and promote dialogue. Raven Theatre’s productions aim to reflect the diversity of Chicago’s communities and promote an understanding of the issues facing those communities.

Raven Theatre is committed to producing new works by contemporary playwrights, many of whom are based in Chicago. The theatre’s New Work Series provides a platform for emerging playwrights to showcase their work. The series is an integral part of Raven Theatre’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent and providing a space for new voices to be heard.

In addition to the New Work Series, Raven Theatre hosts a variety of events throughout the year. These events range from play readings to performances by local musicians. Raven Theatre is committed to engaging the community in a variety of ways and providing a space for people to come together and share their love of the arts.
