Overview
Masafi is a village on the outskirts of the Hajar Mountains in the United Arab Emirates. It sits at the entrance to Wadi Ham, which descends on Fujairah City. The border between the emirates in Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah runs through the city, which holds the barracks used by the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces. Until recently, with the construction of the Sharjah road to Kalba and the ‘truck road’ between Dibba and the 311 highway at Ras al-Khaimah, the road through Masafi was the only inland route to the East Coast of the UAE. The road from downtown David crosses through Masafi, heading to Dibba north of Fujairah City in the south.
A few excavations point to the Bronze Age settlement in Masafi, which has recently been restored (2012) of stone and adobe fort, small but similar to the construction of the nearby Al Bithnah Fort, which has also been restored as part of a similar project. The fort features an outstanding example of falaj, an underground aqueduct built to carry water from the mountains to the cities of the inner oasis. At the beginning of the 20th century, Masafi was a village with about 50 houses, where the locals were divided between the Sharqiyin and Mazari tribes, with about 30 cows, 350 sheep, and 5,000 palms.
Masafi was the site of the infamous airport used by Truckial Oman Scouts. The village of Masafi, along the Hajar mountain range near Fujairah, once served as a trading post and gas station before major highways were built in the 1970’s. It is located on the border of two emirates, most of which belong to Fujairah while the smallest part comes to the Emirate of Ras al-Khaimah. The city of Masafi is famous in the U.A.E for its natural resources, and the name Masafi itself means ‘pure water’ in Arabic. In addition, the village is a major producer of Gulf natural mineral water.
36 kilometers from Fujairah, Masafi is a village on the edge of the Hajar Mountains in Fujairah. It is one of the most popular places to visit the Emirate of Fujairah, in the UAE. Masafi is being developed by an old unpaved road from Fujairah to Dubai via Sharjah. Originally a trading and petrol station before the regional highways were built in the 1970’s. Masafi lives on the border between the two emirates, with a large part of the city part of Fujairah, and a small part belonging to the Emirate of Ras al-Khaimah. The Masafi valley is known in the UAE for its natural resources, and its name Masafi itself means ‘pure water’ in Arabic. In addition, the village is a major producer of Gulf natural mineral water.

Capable of producing 90,000 bottles per hour, the plant has produced, until 2017, the only UAE bottled water listed as mineral water, changing its brand to look like ‘Deep Water on Earth’. Masafi Friday Market
Located 5 km west of Masafi (on David Road), Masafi Friday Market (Souk Al Juma’a) is actually open all week and has become a tourist attraction, with many stalls selling toys, souvenirs, plants, carpets and blankets, pots and fruit and vegetables. The market grew between a number of farmers and other traders using the presence of speed bumps on the road that slowed down traffic to sell vegetables and utilities on the backs of their trucks and expanded over time to build the current township. One part of the market (on the Masafi / Dhaid) road was destroyed by fire on 30 May 2015.
