IS SKYDIVING SAFE?
Like in any other extreme sport, there are risks involved in skydiving. Thanks to the advancements in technology, regulation and training, however, the sport has become much safer over the last few decades. Safety devices like AADs, installed in all our rigs, ensure that even in the unlikely event that a skydiver is unable to manually deploy their main parachute, the device will trigger the deployment of the reserve parachute automatically. Most accidents nowadays involve experienced skydivers making poor choices or performing risky landing maneuvers close to the ground.
CAN YOU BREATH SKYDIVING?
Yes, you can breathe skydiving, and we actively recommend that you do! The freefall part of a skydive usually lasts anywhere between 40 and 60 seconds, therefore it is a long time to be holding your breath. If you panic during your skydive and cannot breathe try looking at the horizon instead of looking down and try to breathe normally.
HOW LONG DOES A SKYDIVE LAST?
A skydive from 15,000 feet usually lasts 50-60 seconds. The main factor that influences a skydive duration is your body position and therefore the surface exposed in friction with the air. Experienced skydivers in a head-down position may experience speeds of up to 450 km/h and a shorter freefall duration. Skydives in a “belly to earth” position, like tandem skydives, usually last up to 60 seconds, due to larger areas exposed to the relative air in freefall and relatively lower speeds, still up to 200km/h!

CAN I BRING MY GOPRO SKYDIVING?
Due to safety reasons, under the Australian Parachute Federation regulation only licensed skydivers with more than 100 skydives are allowed to wear a camera while skydiving. You can purchase photos and video extras with our skydiving packages and have your tandem instructor wear a wrist-mounted camera or even a second cameraman jumping with you to film as an outside camera. If you opt for the base skydiving package with no photos or video, your companions can still film you boarding the plane and landing under parachute, something you can only do at our dropzone in Sydney, being the only self-contained airport with no shuttles or transfers required to board the plane or return from your skydive.
HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN GO UP IN THE SAME PLANE TO SKYDIVE?
That will depend on how many people are in your group. We operate large turbine aircrafts which are perfect for groups, however exact numbers on aircraft are affected by weights, how many want outside cameras and other operational factors. The number of your group on the aircraft can vary from 2-3 people up to 5-6 people on average. We can advise you on the day who and how many will be on each plane load and we will do our best to accommodate group requests. If you have any special needs please let us know at check-in.
WHAT TIME WILL WE BE JUMPING?
We will often have you checked in and jumped within 2-3 hours, however it is safer to plan for a 1/2 day activity as there may be weather or unforeseen circumstances out of our control. The time you are booked for is your check-in time. When you arrive at the dropzone you will need to complete some paperwork and then you are assigned to a load. The safety briefing from your instructor and gear up will take 10 min, followed by a 20 min flight to altitude. Please ensure you check-in on time. If you have any special time constraints or needs please ensure you notify us beforehand. We do our best to keep the day running smoothly but sometimes we are held up due to unforeseen circumstances. At Sydney Skydivers we use the best safety and risk management system and we have real time flight departure boards at the dropzone to keep you informed of your flight. Safety is of the utmost importance to us and if we have to wait on the ground or put jumping on hold to ensure your safety, then we will. We endeavour to complete an individual’s jump in a timely manner.
