Overview
The Fujairah Museum is a collection of archaeological and historical sites found in Fujairah City, Emirate of Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. The museum opened in 1991. It has permanent exhibitions of local archeological discoveries and a traditional way of life historically in Fujairah especially in the UAE in general. Inside the museum, the first exhibition hall displays heritage items related to traditional local activities such as agriculture, fishing, pottery, trade, and weaving. The second precious hall features ancient weapons, various costumes, and vessels. Another hall has mirrors that include a spice shop and souq. Exhibitions include the discovery of fossils from the tombs of Al Badiyah, Dibba Al-Fujairah, and Qidfa ‘, with items such as arrows, carnelian beads, and ships. The museum is located near Fujairah Fort, which is close to walking distance.
History
In 1969, a small one-room museum was established with exhibitions featuring coins, farm implements, pottery, and weapons. On May 27, 1991, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi decided to establish a Department of Antiquities and Heritage for the Emirate of Fujairah, including museum care and collection. On November 30, 1991, the governor of Fujairah officially opened the museum. In 1998, the Department completed plans for the expansion of the museum with two large antiquities and three heritage halls. Those interested in learning more about the Fujairah Museum will be delighted to learn that in 1969, the site was simply a collection of old coins, tools, pottery and weapons. In 1991, Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Governor of Fujairah, officially opened the museum. He also ordered the establishment of the Department of Antiquities and Heritage in Fujairah, which will oversee the expansion and preservation of the museum. It was in 1998 that the museum was expanded and fulfilled its current vision. The museum also has a laboratory and an archeological section.
Genesis of the museum
The museum’s ambition made in 1991 by the Governor of Fujairah, introduces archaeologists and an ethnographic element representing 5,000 years of human history in the region.
Information
The museum is open daily from 8:30 to 1:30 pm and from 4:30 to 6:30, except Friday which opens from 2.30pm to 6.30pm. Admission costs are 5AED and the tour should take you between 20 and 30 minutes. Showed Life As It Once Was In The Emirates: The Fujairah Museum is one of the most popular attractions in the emirate. Every year, from October to March, the museum hosts thousands of visitors every week, most of them international tourists. And during the school year, the Fujairah Museum also hosts school trips, small exhibitions and events. The museum building is a small red stone building. Outside the front door, you will find two cannons on either side. There are parking areas outside the museum and a large garden area, where you will find a small Fujairah Fort. Location
The Fujairah Museum is located near Fujairah Fort and Heritage Village. The best way to get to the museum is by car. Fujairah is one of the best travel destinations in the UAE and you can easily reach the emirate from Dubai in less than two hours. Alternatively, you can also use the Dubai bus service to Fujairah.
Inside The Museum
The museum has many halls, each emphasizing the different aspects of life at the museum. The first hall features traditional activities in the UAE, such as agriculture, weaving, pottery and fishing. The second hall has a section of Heritage and the highlight of the hall is the ancient weapons, especially the Khedwi gun from 1916. You will also see a variety of cloths and utensils used by the local people in the past. Inside the hall, you can also find a picture of a house made of palm leaves. The third hall incorporates ancient art objects such as traditional vessels and tools. You can find a spice shop and souq too. In all, there are five museums in total, three of which are intangible and two of antiquities.
Notable Exhibits
The Fujairah Museum has several exhibitions mainly such as objects such as arrows, carnelian beads and ships. These items have been unveiled in places like Qidfa, Dibba Al-Fujairah and Al Badiyah in the last few decades. Exhibitions cover the period from 600 B.C. to the present tense. For example, there is the Ostrich egg dating back to the 3rd century B.C., which is also the time when the emirate lived. Another outstanding exhibition in the museum is a U-shaped tomb dating from 2000 B.C.

If you have one last time, you can also visit Heritage Village. The entry fee is the same as the entrance fee to the Fujairah Museum which is AED 5. You get to explore the castles and tents and watch the traditional Harbiya dance. Another nearby historical site is Fujairah Fort, also known as Fujairah Fort.
