WADI WARUYAH
First on our list is the famous Wadi Waruyah gorge in Fujairah. The ward is located between the towns of Bidiyah, Masafi, and Khorfakkan in the UAE. After a campaign by the Emirates Wildlife Society and the World Wide Fund for Nature, which focused on the incomparable beauty of the valley, Wadi Wurayah became the first protected mountain area in the UAE. This area is also known as Wadi Wurayah National Park. There is more to explore in this Fujairah ward. Several species of mammals, reptiles, and land and water animals are part of the eco-ecosystem. Visitors also get a chance to see an endangered Arabian tahr, an indigenous mountain goat/sheep species in the region. Other attractions in the ward are Wurayah Dam and the nature reserve. Wadih Wadih Waterfall is a great place to take photos suitable for Insta. In addition, Ward Wurayah National Park, Islamic Cemeteries, and Iron Age sites are some of the attractions in Wadi Wurayah. WADI AL HAYL
Located southwest of Fujairah, Wadi Hayl is worth a visit because of its magnificent views of mountains, archeological sites, and palm fronds. Like other wadis in Fujairah, Hayl has complex natural streams and small lakes. While taking a trip to the valley, visit the ancient Al Hayl Castle, built-in 1830 BC. Visiting the palace is one of the best things you can do in Fujairah, especially the history buffs. The fort was once the home of the ruling family in Fujairah. Currently, the Department of Antiquities and Heritage is maintaining Al Hayl Castle in Fujairah.
WADI BIH
Wadi Bih or Wadi Al Bayh is another great place in Fujairah for amusement parks and bird watchers alike. The river is affectionately called the Grand Canyon of the UAE and tourists visit the area to explore the beautiful mountain trails. Another way to test the ward is to drive on rough roads with a 4-wheeled SUV. Those who want to have fun in Fujairah can be part of the desirable Wadi Bih Run held annually since 1993. WADI SIJI
Wadi Siji Fujairah offers amazing views of natural streams and lakes. The valley is surrounded by beautiful farms. The ward is also known as Wadi Siji Dam, one of the oldest dams in the UAE. Built-in the seventies, the dam is a popular attraction in the region.
WARD SIDR
Another famous river of Fujairah is the Sidr, a valley with rolling hills with camels and goats grazing in an unusual area. The Wadi Sidr in Fujairah is ideal for mountain climbing which allows visitors to explore intricate stone formations along the trails. WADI HAM
Wadi Ham, the longest ward in Fujairah is one of the most worthwhile things to check out in the Hajar Mountain range. Running between Fujairah and Masafi, Wadi Ham is the most popular destination in the region. Tourists and locals often come to this area to visit Al Bithnah Fort, an old building that has been a symbol of power in the past.
WADI SHOWKA
Next on our list of Fujairah wadis is the Wadi Showka located on the border, between the suspension of Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. It, therefore, makes it an ideal place to escape for the inhabitants of both emirates. The Wadi Showka Fujairah and Showka Dam Loop, in particular, are some of the most popular hiking trails in the UAE.
WADI SANA
Located on Masafi-Dibba Road, Wadi Sana is one of the top camping spots in the UAE. Driving to the village is also a pleasure. A beautiful road brings visitors to the center of the valley. As you drive along the river, you will notice that the surrounding area starts slowly from dry deserts to rocky areas before heading to the plateau with beautiful views below. Some of the best activities to get involved in Wadi Sana are camping, mountain biking, and hiking. Don’t forget to pack some bedding and warm blankets as temperatures drop dramatically at night.
POINTS TO UNDERSTAND:
• The best time to visit the aforementioned insects is between October and March as the weather is pleasant during these months.
• Please note that some of the areas in Ward Hayl and Ward Wurayah have a critical ecosystem.
• Public access to Ward Wurayah is permitted with official approval from the UAE Department of Climate Change and Environment.
• Garbage disposal is strictly prohibited in archeological sites and other mountainous areas. It can lead to large fines.
• Pick up extra warm clothing, bedding, shoes, socks, first aid kits, insect repellent, and comfortable sleeping bags, if you plan to camp. Make sure you have a local guide that will help you navigate the area.
